DOLE region 2 proud of Bello

The regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in region 2 is proud of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III who was recently named the ‘Natatanging Cagayano Award’ for the Dangal ng Lahing Cagayano 2021.

The ‘Natatanging Cagayanon’ title is given to men and women with outstanding, exemplary and illustrious performances and achievements as leaders and citizens of the Republic.

They are Cagayanons who made a name not only in the province, but also in the national and international arena, and contributed to the progress and development of communities and the nation.

“Bello has contributed to the promotion and protection of workers’ rights and the attainment of decent employment in the Cagayan Valley Region, and the country as a whole, through his leadership in the implementation of the department’s varied programs and services,” Joel Gonzales, DOLE region 2 director, said.

“In 2020, Bello led the provision of the Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program assistance for pandemic-affected formal sector workers, the first emergency assistance of its kind created since the implementation of community quarantine in March of last year,” Gonzales said.

“During the massive flooding caused by typhoons in Cagayan and Isabela provinces last year, Bello again stood in the forefront of the provision of assistance to displaced workers, pouring help through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program to more than 20,000 informal sector workers affected by the calamity,” he added.

To assist in the peace and development efforts and in keeping with his role as the Cabinet executive for regional development and security, Gonzales said Bello recently earmarked a total of P50 million for DOLE livelihood projects in 100 influenced barangays in Region 2 to help end the local communist armed conflict. ###
